ADL Role:
Dr. Xiangen Hu is an associate professor in cognitive psychology and a faculty member
in the Institute of Intelligent Systems (IIS) at the University of Memphis. Dr.
Hu was appointed Co-Director of the Workforce ADL Co-Lab in 2004.
As Co-Director of the Workforce ADL Co-Lab, Dr. Hu is responsible for theoretical/technical
issues related to the implementation and sharing of learning technology research
with a specific focus on Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) and implementation of
ITS principles in Advanced Distributed Learning.
Experience:
Dr. Hu has been a faculty member of the University of Memphis for over a decade.
His research interests range from human learning and memory, computational linguistics
and artificial intelligence to mathematical psychology, where he has published extensively.
Dr. Hu has been active in the ADL Initiative from the beginning becoming one of
the early advocates of
SCORM, especially during his tenure as an R&D director at
an e-Learning company in Memphis. He has developed several e-Learning applications
and served as computational architect for several federal grants at the Institute
for Intelligent Systems at The University of Memphis. In addition, Dr. Hu currently
serves as a member in the Steering Committee of the Society for Computers in Psychology
(SCiP).
Education:
Dr. Hu received his B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics and M.S. in Social Sciences,
as well as receiving his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California
at Irvine.
